NIGHTLIGHT

Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth: Genesis 1:15-17

He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. Psalm 91:4-6

I have reflected deeply on the theme of this article. When God created the heavens and the earth, He did not intend for us to remain in utter darkness. He created the sun as the greater light to rule by day and the moon as the lesser light to rule by night. Even in the stillness of the night, He provided the moon to rule and offer light. Though the nightlight may be dim, it is still a source of light.

We all face unwavering tests and trials, and at times it feels as if our nightlight season does not end, and there are moments when we cry out, “Lord, I need You.” In your darkest hours, remember that you need not fear the terrors of the night. Many of you may be experiencing what feels like a “nightlight” season—an interval of faint hope or comfort. It is important to recognize that this period is temporary.

Whatever you may be enduring—be it illness, the loss of a loved one, or a sense of brokenness—know that you are not alone. From personal experience, I have learned that without health, everything else can seem insignificant. Yet, even in these challenging times, your nightlight will guide you.

Let this serve as a reminder: even in our nightlight moments, there is a guiding light. Hold on to hope, prepare your heart, and trust that this season will pass too. If you find yourself in a nightlight season, I encourage you to look to the Lord—He is truly the Light of Life.

I do not presume to fully understand the depth of your struggles, but I can offer you the enduring truth: God will never leave you in a nightlight season. There is always a new tomorrow, a new day filled with new mercies. Even in the darkest, brimmest night, we have the nightlight to guide us.

Scripture reminds us that we need not be afraid, no matter where we find ourselves. The central message is clear—there is always hope. May tomorrow bring you renewed joy and expectation as you step into the glorious light of the Lord.

Jesus said, “You are the light of the world,” bringing sight to those who dwell in darkness. Without this light, the world remains in complete obscurity, unable to find direction or purpose. As Scripture reminds us, “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?” If you feel moved in your heart, reach out to someone who is struggling in darkness and gently guide them toward the radiant light of Christ.

You carry the presence of the Lord within you—perhaps without even realizing it. There is an anointing upon your life, a distinct quality that sets you apart. You may notice that your relationships have changed; friends you once spent time with may no longer share your path. While not everyone is drawn to Christian fellowship, this is an opportunity to seek out meaningful connections with others who share your faith and values.

There is far more to you than meets the eye. You are unique and deeply valued—not as mere encouragement, but as a profound truth. God will never abandon you to the enemy; you are secure in His care. Many live in fear of the devil, but we must remember that he is a defeated foe and does not deserve the power we sometimes attribute to him. Stand firm in the assurance of God’s protection and continue to shine your light for others to see.

After any trial where darkness feels overwhelming, victory ultimately follows. As noted, God will not abandon you in a nightlight season or allow you to be tested beyond your ability. He will not. We have often made the Christian life seem insurmountable and burdensome. While it is true that we will face trials and tribulations, there is a great reward for those who persevere. Ultimately, the challenge lies in maintaining the victory that has been achieved.

Do you remember the early days of your walk with the Lord—the “honeymoon season” when you first surrendered your heart to the Lord? For many, that initial period of intimacy and joy can feel fleeting. At times, it may even seem as though the Lord has withdrawn, leaving us to wonder, “Lord, where are You now?” We treasure those precious moments and continually long to rekindle that same depth of encounter with Him.

The truth is that the Lord desires us to seek His presence. He is gentle by nature and will never impose Himself upon us. He is truly the most beautiful being I know, and I love Him with all my heart, soul, and strength. At times, some may gradually drift away from their first love, especially when life unfolds differently than they expected. As we journey through our Christian walk, it is essential that we learn to pray independently, rather than relying solely on others to pray on our behalf.

Belonging to the church community is of utmost importance. Regular participation in worship and receiving the Word each week are essential for spiritual growth. While we recognize that the Lord is omnipresent—present everywhere at all times—He also dwells within each of us. When we gather together in worship, it is in these moments that God reveals Himself powerfully and makes His presence known among us.

It is essential to remember that God loves you deeply and will never let go of your hand. Jesus invites us, saying, “Cast your cares upon me, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” We must ask ourselves: Are we truly entrusting our burdens to Him as He has called us to do?

You are the focal point of His attention; we have been fearfully and wonderfully made. God has always had us in mind. I believe that all of creation—both celestial and earthly—was designed for our very bridal existence. You are cherished and loved by God. If you are in a nightlight episode, remember it is not for long, it shall pass; nonetheless, God will never leave you in utter darkness.
